Northwich Cricket Club is delighted to unveil it's new Junior to Senior Transition Group (JTS)
Aimed at players in school years 8 through to 13, it is planned that this will create a rolling five year block of home grown local players that will push forward through the third and second teams creating competition for places and bolstering the 1st team ambitions.
So how does it work?
Players in year 8 will play with their Under 13s age grade as normal but will also be eligible for senior cricket selection.
Players in the under 15 age grade, school years 9 & 10 will also play league fixtures, however during our research, it's found that these fixtures offer few opportunities for player development due to their shorter game style, travelling during peak traffic and player availablity. These players are also eligible for senior cricket selection
Players at under 17 level, school years 11 - 13 will automatically be available for senior selection.
What's the plan?
The JTS Group will train as a whole group once a week, the under 13s will also train with their year 7 team mates on a different night. In addition conditioned friendly fixtures will be organised which will allow players to gain experience in a structured game environment, focussing on goal setting, game management and player specific roles.
Who?
The JTS Group will be coordinated by Steve Capper who will also manage the 3rd team ensuring consistent selection and development policy. Steve will be supported by an array of club coaches, including a Strength & Conditioning coach / nutritionist with extra support from Cheshire CB.
Training sessions will focus on all aspects of the game but will provide a greater focus on ‘training to develop’ over ‘training to train’.
Matches will focus on development of individual players and creating a string team ethos over results. A team full of well developed players will create positive results naturally and over time.
Admittedly, the JTS will take time to evolve, but you can't grow an oak tree over night! It's an exciting project that will put a strong emphasis on the junior section, particularly the later aged teens where this age group is nationally recognised for players to completely drop out of playing any form of sporting activity.
By creating this five year rolling platform it not only strengthens the club moving forward, but manufacturers long lasting friendships and team camaraderie.
We would also encourage parents to come forward to assist with the group, NCC like many other cricket clubs regularly struggle to find scorers and umpires along with other duties to help with the running of the group.
